Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport you will be greeted by the Airport Representative and Professional Chauffer of Ayubowan Tours & Travels. Your chauffer will drive you to the hotel in Negombo (about 20 minutes’ drive). Negombo is popular for its long sandy beaches and centuries old fishing industry. If time permits chauffer will conduct a sightseeing tour in Negombo as per your interest. Overnight Negombo.
After breakfast proceed to Anuradhapura. Sightseeing tour in Anuradhapura to witness the first capital of Sri Lanka dating back to 4th century BC, famous for its well-preserved ruins with magnificent stupas and picturesque lakes which has an irresistible charm for the visitor. Places to be visited in Anuradhapura, Abhayagiri, Jetavana, Thuparama, Mirisawetiya stupas, Ruwanveliseya Dagoba, Aukana & Samadhi Buddha Statues, Sri Maha Bodhi (world’s oldest authenticated tree), Isurumuniya, Kuttam Pokuna(twin ponds) Overnight Anuradhapura.
After breakfast leave for Jaffna, the magnetic north. Visit Mihintale en-route. Mihintale, “the mountain of Mahinda”, “the cradle of Buddhism”, was identified as a great monastic city. It is believed by Sri Lankans to be the site of a meeting between the Buddhist monk Mahinda and King Devanampiyatissa which inaugurated the presence of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. Visit Jaffna library. It was first built in 1933; the Jaffna Library has long been a symbol of northern heritage. Emphasized by its now restored classical architecture, the library also endured a horrific burning in 1981. Jaffna fort was initially built by the Portuguese in the 17th century, and the Jaffna Fort is one of Sri Lanka’s last well-preserved colonial ramparts. Sprawled over the southeastern edge of the northern capital, the Jaffna Fort owes much of its grandeur to the Dutch, who captured it from the Portuguese and later expanded it into the landmark we see today. Following the departure of the Dutch, the British also used the Jaffna Fort as a stronghold until Sri Lanka’s independence in 1948. Overnight Jaffna.
After breakfast leave for the sightseeing tour in Jaffna. Visit Nagadeepaya Buddhist temple was where the Buddha came during his second visit to Sri Lanka, after five years of attaining Enlightenment. Visit Nagapooshani Amman Hindu Temple. This is the most visited historic Hindu Temple in Nainativu Island, Sri Lanka. Nagapooshani Amman Temple is dedicated to Goddess Parvati, who is known as Bhuvaneswari or Nagapooshani, an Avatar of Durga. Leave for Kankesanthurai, visit Dambakola patuna, Keerimalai spring well on the way, back to hotel visit Kandarodai ancient Buddhist monastery. The Dambakola Patuna is an ancient port in northern Jaffna with a long history dating back to the first days of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. Back in 250 B.C., Mihindu Maha Thero brought Buddhism to Sri Lanka, following which Nun Sangamitta, his sister, brought the famed Sacred Bo Sapling to the site of the Dambakola Patuna. Visit the Keerimalai Hot Spring, natural spring located in the Keerimalai area of Jaffna. The spring is considered a holy pond, with many Hindu and other devotees patronizing it, seeking miraculous healing, remedies for impotence, and physical well-being. Visit Kandarodai Temple located in the small hamlet known as Kandarodai, is one of the last Buddhist temples left in Jaffna. In Jaffna market you can buy the famous Jaffna mangoes, mats, hats and other items woven from Palmyra leaves. Overnight Jaffna.
After breakfast proceed to Nallur Hindu Temple, situated about 3km from Jaffna town and is also called as the Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil, one of the most significant Hindu Temples in Sri Lanka. The 15th-century Kovil, dedicated to Lord Murugan, the god of war, love, and beauty, boasts grand arches and vibrant hues as part of its enthralling Dravidian architecture. Proceed to Trincomalee which is located on the east coast of the island overlooking the Trincomalee Harbor (ranked as the world’s 5th largest natural harbors). Sightseeing such as the Thirukoneswaram Kovil, Fort Fredrick, Trincomalee war cemetery and beautiful sandy beaches (Nilaveli & Uppuveli) Overnight Nilaveli/Trincomalee.
In Trincomalee at leisure. A short boat ride off the beach and you may visit the Pigeon Island near Nilveli. It is famous for diving, snorkeling & sea bathing. Nilaveli beach is a popular destination amongst sun worshippers and it is surrounded by rocky islets. Sightseeing of the Thirukoneswaram Kovil, Fort Fredrick, Trincomalee war cemetery in the evening and stay at leisure at the hotel. Overnight Nilaveli/Trincomalee.
After breakfast leave for Polonnaruwa, medieval capital of the island (11th & 12th century). Polonnaruwa shows the interesting blend of the influence of the South Indian Hindu culture on the Sinhala Buddhist art & architecture in the scattered shrines & monuments still venerated daily by devotees. The Siva Devalas are interesting transposition of the Hindu style of décor. Other popular ruins are, the King’s Council Chamber the floral stone pillars of Nissanka Lata Mandapaya, the royal citadel, Kumara Pokuna, the Thuparama with its original vaulted roof, the exquisite circular Vatadage relic house, lavished with moonstones, guardstones and sculptured railings, Kiri Vehera, the best preserved of Sri Lanka’s un-restored dagobas. Visit Gal Vihare, the massive statues of Buddha cut in a row form a horizontal escarpment of streaked granite. Visit Demala Maha Seya a shrine of noval design, Thivanka Image House which is famous for Buddhist frescoes, Lankathilake Viharaya, shows a unique style of brickwork architecture. Visit Parakrama Samudraya made by King Parakramabhahu, one of the largest man made inland lakes in the world. Can be visited the statue of Parakramabahu near the lake. It’s a large statue cut in a niche carved out of rock. Leave for Sigiriya after visiting the site. Overnight Sigiriya.
After breakfast leave for Sigiriya, visit the rock fortress. This rock fortress was built by King Kasyapa in the 5th century A.D. and was a royal citadel for more than 18 years. The Sigiriya site contains the ruins of an upper palace located on the flat top of the rock, a mid level terrace that includes the Lion Gate and the mirror wall with its frescoes, the lower palaces clings to the slopes below the rocks. The site was both a palace and a fortress. Optional: Leave for a Village Tour which will be operated in a small village called Hiriwaduna. This will be a 2.5hrs tour through the village and you will be having an opportunity to experience the nature and the culture of a real Sri Lankan rural village. Leave for Minnariya to experience a wild safari in the afternoon by a safari jeep. Minneriya is a hot spot for safari lovers because of its abundance of elephants. Over 200 elephants converge to enjoy the tank with the receding water level to play and make merry. Overnight Sigiriya.
After breakfast leave for Kandy visiting the Dambulla cave temple. Dambulla is the largest and best preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. Its rock ceiling is one large sweep of colorful paintings which related to Lord Buddha and his life. Some of them are over 2000 years old. Visit Sri Muttumariamman Hindu Temple at Matale, one of the visually dominant features of this temple is its 32.9 m (108 ft) high Gopuram ('Raja Gopuram'), a large decorated tower with 1008 statues of Hindu Deities located above the main northern gateway. It’s recommended to visit an Herbal Spice Garden at Matale to learn about Sri Lanka’s world renowned spices and a lot of different herbs. Visit the Temple of the Tooth which houses the Sacred Tooth of Lord Buddha. Visitors can observe Poojas (offerings) the ancient traditions of drumming and sacred chanting in honor of the Tooth Relic. Witness the Cultural Dancing Show in the evening. It’s a stimulating of Sri Lankan Arts, Dance and Cultural Heritage with traditional dancer’s & drummer’s performance. Overnight Kandy.
After breakfast leave for Peradeniya to visit the Royal Botanical Garden. It is renowned for its collection of orchids. The garden includes more than 4000 species of plants, including orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees. Optional: Visit a Gem & Jewelry Factory, Handicrafts Factory, Handloom and Battik Factory to gain knowledge about the process and also possible to purchase genuine products at outlets. Proceed to Colombo visiting the Elephant Orphanage at Pinnawala. It’s an orphanage, nursery and captive breeding ground for wild Asian elephants. The orphanage was established to feed, nurse and house young / baby elephants found abandoned by their mothers. Evening one hour sightseeing tour in Colombo. Overnight Colombo.
After breakfast conduct a sightseeing tour in Colombo and transfer to the Bandaranaike International Airport for the Departure Flight. It will be about 30 to 40 minutes’ drive from Colombo to the Airport on highway.
