Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport in the late evening or night time, you will be greeted by the Airport Representative and Professional Chauffer of Ayubowan Tours & Travels. Your chauffer will drive you to Colombo and it will be about 30 minutes’ drive on expressway. Overnight in Colombo.
After breakfast proceed to Sigiriya visiting the Elephant Orphanage en-route. It’s an orphanage, nursery and captive breeding ground for wild Asian elephants. Visit Dambulla Cave Temple en-route. Dambulla is the largest and best preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. Its rock ceiling is one large sweep of colorful paintings which related to Lord Buddha and his life. There are 80 documented caves in the surrounding and a total of 153 Buddha statues within the main 05 caves. In the afternoon you will visit the Sigiriya Kingdom, which was built by King Kasyapa in the 5th century A.D. and was a royal citadel for more than 18 years. The Sigiriya site contains the ruins of an upper palace located on the flat top of the rock, a mid level terrace that includes the Lion Gate and the mirror wall with its frescoes, the lower palaces clings to the slopes below the rocks. After breakfast leave for Polonnaruwa, medieval capital of the island (11th & 12th century). Polonnaruwa shows the interesting blend of the influence of the South Indian Hindu culture on the Sinhala Buddhist art & architecture in the scattered shrines & monuments still venerated daily by devotees. The Siva Devalas are interesting transposition of the Hindu style of décor. Other popular ruins are, the King’s Council Chamber the floral stone pillars of Nissanka Lata Mandapaya, the Royal Citadel, Kumara Pokuna (Pond), the Thuparama with its original vaulted roof, the exquisite circular Vatadage Relic House, lavished with Moonstones, Guard Stones and Sculptured Railings, Kiri Vehera Buddhist Temple. Visit Gal Vihare, the massive statues of Buddha cut in a row form a horizontal escarpment of streaked granite. Visit Demala Maha Seya a shrine of noval design, Thivanka Image House which is famous for Buddhist frescoes. Visit Parakrama Samudraya made by King Parakramabhahu, one of the largest man made inland lakes in the world. Can be visited the statue of Parakramabahu near the lake. It’s a large statue cut in a niche carved out of rock. Proceed to Kandy. It is recommended to visit an Herbal Spice Garden at Matale which is on the way to Sigiriya to learn about Sri Lanka’s world renowned spices and a lot of different herbs. Optional: Visit Sri Muttumariamman Hindu Temple at Matale, one of the visually dominant features of this temple is its 32.9 m (108 ft) high Gopuram ('Raja Gopuram'), a large decorated tower with 1008 statues of Hindu Deities located above the main northern gateway. Overnight Kandy.
After breakfast visit the Royal Botanical Garden at Peradeniya. It is renowned for its collection of orchids. The garden includes more than 4000 species of plants, including orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees. Conduct a sightseeing tour in Kandy including a visit to Gem Museum, Handicraft Factory and Handloom & Battik Factory. Visit the Temple of the Tooth which houses the Sacred Tooth of Lord Buddha. Visitors can observe poojas (offerings) the ancient traditions of drumming and sacred chanting in honor of the Tooth Relic. Witness the Cultural Dancing Show in the evening. It’s a stimulating of Sri Lankan Arts, Dance and Cultural Heritage with traditional dancer’s & drummer’s performance. Overnight Kandy.
After breakfast proceed to Nuwara Eliya by visiting a Tea Factory, Tea Plantations and Water Falls. Visit a tea factory around Ramboda will be a fantastic stop through misty mountains as you can enjoy with a cup of tea (world famous “Ceylon Tea”) and also you can buy fresh products from their outlet. If interested you can visit Shri Bhakta Hanuman temple at Ramboda which is dedicated to the God Hanuman and you can witness the 18 feet Hanuman statue. Visit Ramboda Falls and reach Nuwara Eliya by passing scenic misty mountains. Visit Hakgala Royal Botanical Garden which is about 07 km from NuwaraEliya. There are over 10,000 species of flora planted here. In the folklores, it says Sri Lankan demon King Ravana after abducting Sita, kept her hidden in this area and area was offered to Sita as a pleasure garden, the place finds mention in the Ramayana as Ashok Vatika. The area was named as "Sita Eliya" and "Sita Amman Temple" was built on the site. Afterwards you can visit Seeta Amman Temple which related to the above. Conduct a sightseeing tour in Nuwaraeliya to enjoy the beauty of the city which is called “Little England”. Overnight Nuwara Eliya.
After breakfast leave for Nanu Oya Station to experience the train ride to Ella. Your chauffer will be picked up you from Ella Station. Visit Nine Arches Bridge and other sightseeing in Ella. Climb Little Adams Peak which has a fantastic view on the top. It takes about an hour to walk up to the top and the path is well laid out. The views once you are at the top are simply stunning. Stay at leisure and enjoy the dinner at a restaurant in Ella city will be memorable. Overnight Ella.
After breakfast proceed to Yala visiting Ravana Caves & Ravana Falls on the way. Ravana Falls is currently ranking as one of the widest falls in the country. It is a gorgeous beautiful waterfall just by the main road which can have a view from the main road. Visit Buduruwagala Anciant Buddhist Temple. The complex consists of seven statues and belongs to the Mahayana school of thought. Experience the afternoon safari at Yala National Park. Yala is famous for its elephant population, seen in small and large herds, leopard, spotted deer, Sambhur, Barking deer, Monkey, Wild Buffalo, Wild Boar, Sloth Bear and innumerable varieties of birds endemic and migratory. Peacock is the most famous of the birds at Yala. Overnight Tissamaharama or Kataragama.
After breakfast visit Proceed to Mirissa. Optional; Visit Kataragama Murugan Temple before leaving to Mirissa as per your interest. Mirissa is known to be the beach to just lay back. The beach is ideal for snorkeling, surfing & whale watching boat trips. It has developed a reputation as a party destination for the travelers and popular for seafood restaurants. Overnight Mirissa.
Early in the morning leave for a boat safari to see blue whales & dolphins in Mirissa as the boats are leaving by 06.30 am from the main port. Proceed to Hikkaduwa visiting the Galle Dutch Fort which was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century. It’s a historical, archaeological and architectural heritage monument which has been recognized as a UNESCO world heritage site. Overnight Hikkaduwa.
After breakfast visit Meetiyagoda Moonstone Mines, Turtle Hatchery at Kosgoda. It is the one of the very few hatcheries where all the five species in the country make their nests. They are the Olive Ridleys, Green Turtles, Leatherbacks, Loggerheads and Hawksbills. Then experience a River Boat Safari at Madu River with the sightseeing of 64 islands including cinnamon islands. As you sail through the rippling waters, watch out for water monitors, blue-eyed cormorants perched atop floating branches, fruit bats hanging asleep, upside down and the endearing sight of infant monkeys clinging onto fishermen as they sail across the river on narrow boats. Proceed to Colombo and conduct a short sightseeing tour including Shopping Malls. You will be able to witness Independence Square, Old Parliament Building, Old Dutch Hospital, Temple Trees, President’s House, Galle Face Green, BMICH, Viharamahadevi Park, Nelum Pokuna Theatre, Lotus Tower, Pettah Street Market, Central Bus Station and Fort Railway Station.
