Then proceed to Hikkaduwa by highway. Hikkaduwa is the place for underwater delights. After breakfast leave for Mirissa visiting the Galle Dutch Fort which was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century. It’s a historical, archaeological and architectural heritage monument which has been recognized as a world heritage site. Sightseeing of different beautiful southern beaches until Mirissa, stilt fishermen activities and all that will be covered on the way. Stilt fishing is a method of fishing unique to the island. The fishermen sit on a cross bar called a “petta” tied to a vertical pole and driven in to the sand a few meters offshore. Mirissa is known to be the beach to just lay back. After breakfast leave for Ella visiting Buduruwagala Anciant Buddhist Temple. Buduruwagala is an ancient Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka. The complex consists of seven statues and belongs to the Mahayana school of thought. The statues date back to the 10th century. The gigantic Buddha statue still bears traces of its original stuccoed robe and a long streak of orange suggests it was once brightly painted. The central of the three figures to the Buddha's right is thought to be the Buddhist mythological figure-the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara. To the left of this white painted figure is a female figure in the thrice-bent posture, which is thought to be his consort-Tara. Visit Ravana Caves & Ravana Falls on the way. Ravana Falls is currently ranking as one of the widest falls in the country. It is a gorgeous beautiful waterfall just by the main road which can have a view from the main road. It has a natural pool near the bottom of the falls which is a place for swimming and splashing depending on the water level. It is recommended to visit an Herbal Spice Garden at Matale which is on the way to Sigiriya to learn about Sri Lanka’s world renowned spices and a lot of different herbs. Visit Damulla Cave Temple. Dambulla is the largest and best preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. Its rock ceiling is one large sweep of colorful paintings which related to Lord Buddha and his life. Some of them are over 2000 years old. There are 80 documented caves in the surrounding and a total of 153 Buddha statues within the cave. Visit Sigiriya Kingdom in the afternoon. This rock fortress was built by King Kasyapa in the 5th century A.D. and was a royal citadel for more than 18 years. The Sigiriya site contains the ruins of an upper palace located on the flat top of the rock, a mid level terrace that includes the Lion Gate and the mirror wall with its frescoes, the lower palaces clings to the slopes below the rocks.
