Walk along the beach and watch the fishermen cast their nets and the fish being auctioned and sold to private and commercial customers. Leave for Sigiriya. Early evening climb to Sigiriya Rock Fortress, Sigiriya Rock Fortress is UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most dramatic, inspiring and beautiful historical locations in the world. A mythical past of feuding dynasties suits Sigiriya’s striking setting- it was built in 5th century AD by king, Kasyapa, as a fortress-palace. The palace complex at the foot of the rock still has the remains of four indoor swimming pools where the king’s 500 concubines bathed. The palace structure was built with complex water arteries in the walls that provided natural air conditioning in the hot climate. On the summit, reached with the help of metal staircases and ladders, you can see the remains of the palace walls, gardens and ponds. Today the ancient city of Polonnaruwa remains one of the best planned Archeological relic sites in the country, standing testimony to the discipline and greatness of the Kingdom’s first rulers. You can admire the remains of the Royal Palace, Gal Vihara which is a group of beautiful Buddha images marking the high point of Sinhalese rock cravings, the Lotus Pond, the statue of King Parakramabahu and the historic Audience Hall. Later in the evening make a jeep safari at Minneriya national park, Minneriya National Park boasts an unusually wide range of habitat types. Minneriya National Park is considered an important feeding ground for elephants in the vicinity of Matale, Polonnaruwa and Trincomalee and is famed for its 'Elephant Gathering' -a spectacular phenomenon during the long dry seasons when hundreds of elephants can be seen feeding on the grasslands bordering the tank while others cool off in its refreshing water. This annual event is a unique spectacle attracting hundreds of wildlife fanatics every year but elephants are present here year-round so you will have good chances of seeing them even if your travel dates do not coincide with the Elephant Gathering. After breakfast leave for Kandy via Dambulla, Nalanda and Matale. First visit Dambulla cave Temple. It is the Largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock towers 160 m over the surrounding plains. There are more than 80 documented caves in the surrounding. Major attractions are spread over 5 caves, which contain statues and paintings. These paintings and statues are related to Lord Buddha and his life. There are a total of 153 Buddha statues, 3 statues of Sri Lankan kings and 4 statues of God and goddess. Then visit Gedige at Nalanda one of the remarkable archaeological sites in Sri Lanka & enjoying the Spice Garden at Matale and take part in a conducted tour to get some knowledge about the growth and use of spices in the day-to-day life. Visit the Temple of the Tooth for the evening ceremony. The stunning 17th-century Temple of the Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa) is said to house the upper left canine tooth of Buddha himself. This precious relic attracts daily pilgrims dressed in white, carrying lotus blossoms and frangipani. Overnight stay at hotel in Kandy.
