Leave for Polonnaruwa ancient city, learn about the better kept ruins of ancient Ceylon at the UNESCO World Heritage City of Polonnaruwa - the medieval capital of ancient Lanka from the 11th to 13th century A.D. Take a walking tour of the ruins at Lankathilaka, Thuparamaya, Royal Palace, Rankoth Vehera and Gal Viharaya and Vatadage and be awed by their lasting grandeur. Later in the evening make a jeep safari at Minneriya national park, Minneriya National Park boasts an unusually wide range of habitat types. Minneriya National Park is considered an important feeding ground for elephants in the vicinity of Matale, Polonnaruwa and Trincomalee and is famed for its 'Elephant Gathering' -a spectacular phenomenon during the long dry seasons when hundreds of elephants can be seen feeding on the grasslands bordering the tank while others cool off in its refreshing water. This annual event is a unique spectacle attracting hundreds of wildlife fanatics every year but elephants are present here year round so you will have good chances of seeing them even if your travel dates do not coincide with the Elephant Gathering. After breakfast leave for Kandy via Dambulla, Nalanda and Matale. First visit Dambulla cave Temple. It is the Largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock towers 160 m over the surrounding plains. There are more than 80 documented caves in the surrounding. Major attractions are spread over 5 caves, which contain statues and paintings. This paintings and statues are related to Lord Buddha and his life. There are a total of 153 Buddha statues, 3 statues of Sri Lankan kings and 4 statues of god and goddess. Then visit Gedige at Nalanda one of the remarkable archaeological sites in Sri Lanka & enjoying the Spice garden at Matale and take part in a conducted tour to get some knowledge about the growth and use of spices in the day to day life. This is a living world heritage city with residents walking the 300-year-old ramparts at sunset. Strolling along the high rampart walls you will see the Old Dutch and English churches, the Governor's house, the massive VOC warehouses, the Square of Courts, the elegant pillared facade of the Old Dutch hospital, the Portuguese Black Fort, the lighthouse, the Clock Tower and much more. Breakfast at the hotel. Leave for Colombo. Visit De Saram House Colombo - In 1986 Geoffrey Bawa undertook the renovation of two small houses at Ward Place for Druvi and Sharmini de Saram. In April 2019 the Lunuganga Trust took on the management of the house Bawa designed, having worked with the de Sarams to fully restore this lyrical house. The restoration was part of the Trust’s programme to conserve Bawa buildings and sustain their ongoing operation and maintenance. Druvi is one of Sri Lanka’s most acclaimed pianists, and the house is designed with a music room at its centre. Visit Seema Malaka is a Buddhist temple in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The temple is mainly used for meditation and rest, rather than for worship. Seema Malaka was originally constructed in the late 19th century. The original structure slowly sank into the water in 1970s.
