Among the many fascinating ancient ruins are huge bell-shaped stupas built of small sun-dried bricks, temples, sculptures, palaces, and ancient drinking-water reservoirs. Statues of Lord Buddha stand as evidence of the country’s religious affiliations since the past. Each monument carries its own significant tale, a story worth knowing and remembering the frequent religious ceremonies that draw in throngs of devotees give Anuradhapura a vibrancy which makes the onlookers nostalgic of the days gone by.
